Dilworth Art Project

You are invited to join the discussion to help promote our art initiatives! Please direct new ideas for art projects to the DCA board at the monthly DCA meetings.

WHAT: Dilworth has often taken a leadership position in Charlotte’s neighborhood development and protection, planning, and stewardship. We assembled an Executive Committee to pursue development of what is hoped to be the first of several art projects continuing Dilworth’s leadership role, this time in embracing visual arts to be enjoyed by the neighborhood and others.

We have installed a sculpture to commemorate the founding of Dilworth, and the Dilworth Line (streetcar) by Edward Dilworth Latta 120 years ago. A significant amount of material has been secured from the old streetcar line which can be transformed by Robert Winkler into a signature piece of sculpture. This will be Dilworth’s first work of public art. For more see this article.

WHO: An Advisory Committee has been formed to offer advice to the executive committee, help spread the word to Dilworth residents, and assist in fundraising efforts. The “founding project” is underway and fundraising has begun. Once we have met our minimum level of funding, a call to artists will be sent and the selection of our first sculpture will commence.

The Dilworth Art Project is a grassroots effort and we take great pride in positioning our neighborhood as a leader for promoting the visual arts in Charlotte. Our long-term goal is to install numerous sculptures throughout Dilworth.
